Acne (medically called acne vulgaris) is a long-term skin disease that occurs when hair follicles are clogged with dead skin cells and oil from the skin, leading to changes in skin bacterial growth patterns and inflammation. It is characterized by blackheads or whiteheads, pimples, oily skin, and possible scarring.

While numerous factors can influence the development of acne, one of the largest factors is just genetics - which you can't control. There are factors that you can modify like quitting smoking or eating a healthy diet low in junk carbohydrates.
